As I write my final newsletter, I find myself overwhelmed with thoughts and memories of the last five years. First and foremost, from the bottom of my heart, thank you for turning my dream into a reality more amazing than I ever expected. It’s absolutely true that I have a nearly fanatic love for great coffee, coffee that is produced without chemicals, and with respect for the farmers and the planet. However, as the tag line for the shop says “It’s Not Just About the Coffee…” It has always also been about creating a successful business that welcomes all individuals and nourishes the community spirit as well. Over the years, we have been proud to be a place that people have come to laugh and cry in, over the best cup of coffee in the Lakes Region. It has been a joy to nurture artists and musicians, and to share the personal successes and challenges that so many of you have experienced along the way. Jane’s excellence in management and baking has allowed the vision to become a reality. There could not possibly be a better new owner for Awakenings, which Jane will now take to a new level. Please welcome her, and keep the café strong by enjoying all of the products there. A great way to support the business is to make a habit of having lunch there with a friend every week, and buying our coffee and tea for home. Even after 5 years, many people have never crossed the threshold of Awakenings. Please encourage your friends and acquaintances to try it out, and don’t forget the beautiful courtyard out back!
As it happens, this is also the moment of another transition, as our beloved Laura Stuckey leaves work to have her first child. “Serving you has been one of the most satisfying experiences of my life and I will carry that with me as I move into my next role as ‘mom’”. Please drop by and see the letter that she has left for you all! We will be busy driving her crazy as we call her 10 times per day to see if baby has arrived yet.
