Welcome to Awakenings Espresso Café, voted Best of the Best Gourmet Coffee Shop of the Lakes Region in 2004! Awakenings is an independent coffeehouse with the finest in specialty coffee and tea, committed to quality in product and service. All of our coffee beans are hand cultivated, hand picked and processed, then craft roasted to our specifications, as we need it. These freshly roasted beans are then ground and brewed just before serving, producing a simply great cup of coffee. You can taste the difference! Organic, fair trade, shade grown, bird friendly coffees are all found here! We are similarly proud of our fully organic loose tea line. These teas are hand picked in India, China, Japan and Sri Lanka, from certified organic estates and tea farms, imported and handled with love by Divinitea, and brewed to perfection at Awakenings. Hot chocolate, chai, Italian sodas, and an extensive smoothie line, including Healthy Alternatives round out our beverage offerings. We stand by our quality promise that we call "BevAssurance", meaning that we will patiently and cheerfully keep making drinks till we find one you love!

Our motto is "It's Not Just about Coffee". We serve tasty treats, home baked and delicious, as well as delightful lunch items. Our specialties include Mama Jane's cookies, her classics being chocolate chip, snickerdoodle and peanut butter, and the famous Cindy's Monster Cookies, from a secret recipe that includes oatmeal, peanut butter, chocolate chips, M & M s, just to name a few of the yummy ingredients. Black and White cookies, a Manhattan tradition made famous by Seinfeld, are imported from New York City. Low carb fans have unanimously endorsed our Atkin's Friendly Cheesecake as the best one around. Our ever-expanding food line includes Bistro Lunch Specials like Tuscan Bean Salad, Sweet Onion Soup smothered in Cheese, Chili Rio de Janeiro, Tante Jeannette's Pork Pie, and Irena's Outrageous Baked Beef Stew. Regular items include soups, Jane's Awesome Chicken Salad Wrap, and Panini sandwiches.

It's also about community, being in it, supporting it and creating it. Local musical talent play here, Thursday and Friday evenings, no cover charge. Local artists display their works, exhibitions changing on a monthly basis. In the warmer months, patrons enjoy the Canal Street Courtyard. This magical space behind the café was created by Robert Sawyer and is accessed through the businesses of the 50 to 62 Canal Street building. This oasis of peace and harmony has a deck, brick patio, custom art wrought iron fence and flowerbeds.
